Animation of how the app works.
Three Steps, In Every App You Use
- 1
Hold one key
Click into Gmail, Slack, Notion, Claude or anywhere else you type.
- 2
Say it out loud
Talk like you'd talk to a mate. Ramble and change your mind if you need to.
- 3
Let go
Your words appear at the cursor with the punctuation done. Most dictations take under a second.
Talking Is More Than 3 Times Faster Than Typing
So take a 120 word email. Type it at the average speed and it takes 2 minutes 18 seconds. Say it out loud and you're done in 41 seconds, before the kettle boils.
Typing is 52 words a minute, the average from a study of 168,000 people by Aalto University and Cambridge. Talking is my own average of 176 words a minute across 399 dictations, pauses included. Yours will be different.
It Writes The Way Each App Expects
Emails come out tidy. Slack stays casual, gonna and all. And Claude gets your file names exactly as you said them.

Yeah I'm gonna push the new ads, sorry, new statics to the folder this arvo. Lemme know if the hook's too long.

It Fixes The Stuff That Makes Dictation Annoying
Change your mind mid-sentence
Say "sorry" or "no wait" and only the last thing you said gets typed.
Names come out right
UnType checks the names on your screen, so the person you're emailing gets spelled properly.
Fix a word once
Correct a word after it's typed and UnType spells it your way from then on.
Your Text Shows Up In About A Third Of A Second
Let go of the key and most of the time your words are already there. On my Mac, a typical UnType dictation came back 1.8 times quicker than Wispr Flow and 1.5 times quicker than Willow.
Now the slow ones. About 1 in 10 dictations need the AI tidy-up, and those took about 1.5 seconds, longer than either app. My slowest 1 in 10 took 1.35 seconds or more, against 0.79 for Wispr Flow and 0.57 for Willow.
Median time from key release to text, on one M1 Pro MacBook in Brisbane. UnType: 401 dictations, 5 to 7 Nov 2026. Wispr Flow: 947 dictations from its own log on the same Mac. Willow: 1,441 dictations, timed from the files it saves on the same Mac. The three apps ran on different days, so this isn't a side by side lab test. Your Mac and your internet will change the numbers.
Your Voice Stays On Your Mac
Speech turns into text on your Mac, so your audio is never sent anywhere. When a sentence needs tidying, the text and the kind of app you're in go to Anthropic, the company behind Claude. Anthropic doesn't train on it.

Wispr Flow and Willow don't sell lifetime access at all. UnType's A$199 is paid once, and that's less than one year on either of them.
Wispr Flow, Willow, Superwhisper and Aqua Voice all have free plans with limits, and this table compares their paid ones. UnType has a 3 day trial instead. Some of these apps also run on Windows and phones. UnType is Mac only.
Prices came from each app's own site on 7 Nov 2026, using the standard paid plan. US dollars are converted at A$1.44, the 6 Nov rate, and rounded to the nearest dollar. VoiceInk's A$36 covers 1 Mac. Speed is the median from the test further up this page, which also shows the slow ones. Not tested means I haven't measured it. Not stated means their site doesn't say. Logos belong to their owners, and none of these companies is connected to UnType.
Questions
Do I need a card for the trial?
Yes. You won't be charged for 3 days. Cancel before then and you pay nothing.
How do I cancel?
Log in, press Manage Billing and cancel there. You don't need to email anyone.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Email support@rudygoel.com within 14 days of your first payment and you get all of it back. The refund ends your plan. None of this changes your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Why does my Mac warn me when I first open it?
UnType is in early access and isn't signed by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm it once. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll down and press Open Anyway. Your welcome page walks you through it. After that it opens like any other app.
What Mac do I need?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 or later.
Does it work offline?
Speech does. The tidy-up needs the internet, so offline you get your words as they were heard.
What languages does it speak?
English only for now.
Is there a Windows or iPhone app?
Mac only for now.
